If trails are muddy, your best option is to stay off them until they’re dry- this helps prevent erosion.
If you must use a muddy trail, stick to the center of the trail. Walking around or on the edges just makes the muddy, eroding spot wider!

Thanks to the rain, our path up Balch Hill is a muddy mess. We look forward to rescheduling this when the weather is better!
Join leader Hugh Mellert for another wonderful tour of the Upper Slade Brook & Huntington Hill trails. NOTE: These will be different than the trails taken last week! Continue exploring this beautiful area and learn more about its history.
Meet at 11 Old Lyme Road, off Route 10.
This is just north of River Road, NOT 11 Lyme Road, which is across from the golf course.
Snow’s too great to miss!
Bring your friends for a fun afternoon at Hudson Farm! We’ll ski a loop around the ungroomed, gently rolling hills; skiers of all ages are welcome to play and explore at their own pace. Parking is available on Partridge Road, off Trescott Road (near Etna). Look for the Conservancy event sign or call (904) 536-9682 for directions.
POP-UP SNOWSHOE HIKE – Slade Brook Wilderness trails – Sunday, March 11, 10am-noon. Meet at 11 Old Lyme Road (off Route 10). Snowshoes available to borrow. Great for families with kids 7 and up or in backpacks.
UPDATE: Microspikes are strongly recommended! Just as a reminder, the first section of this loop is all uphill, but we’ll take plenty of breaks. We expect to start the bonfire by 6:45 or so.
This Saturday from 5-8, join Hugh Mellert on this annual family favorite- suitable for ages 7+. Enjoy a bonfire, cocoa and treats at the end. Meet at 11 Old Lyme Rd; free, no registration required. Please, no dogs. Co-sponsored with Hanover Parks & Rec.
