Kite Day 20th Anniversary & Remembrance at Balch Hill

Bring your kites and kids to join us for a joyous afternoon of kite-flying in the breezes of Balch Hill. This long-time tradition, inspired by Susan Harper, makes for great family fun. We’ll honor Susan at a ceremony at 2.

Meet: At the summit of Balch Hill (please allow 15 minutes to hike to the site)

Rain date: June 5.

Spring Bird Trip at Balch Hill Natural Area

A sure sign of spring is the arrival of birds migrating up the Connecticut River to their breeding grounds in Hanover’s fields and forests. Bring binoculars.

Level: Beginners welcome.

Annual Hawk Watch at Balch Hill

September 1, 2021

See the hawks on their migration south and enjoy the views from the summit of Balch Hill. Families welcome. Bring your binoculars and hope for clear skies and cruising hawks! We’ll share the history of this special place, protected in 1970, and how the Natural Area is formed by lands owned by the Hanover Conservancy, Town of Hanover, and Dartmouth College.

Meet at the summit of Balch Hill. Suitable for all ages.

Create A Kite Challenge with Red Kite Candy

April 2, 2021

During the month of May, we invite you to make a kite! Be creative, make it colorful, add fun designs, let your imagination fly. Bring your kite to display at the Red Kite Candy shop in Hanover, and receive a small bag of yummy Red Kite candy. At month’s end, 5 grand prize winners will be chosen- the come pick up your kite and fly it at Balch Hill when you wish. Please put name, age and contact info on your kite!
