Hanover Garden Club presents Doug Tallamy films at the Nugget

March 28, 2025

The Hanover Garden Club will host a special video presentation of two films from Doug Tallamy of Homegrown National Park on Tuesday, April 22, at the Nugget Theater. The films will address issues like how biodiversity is declining, and what you can do to help; simple, effective ways to create habitat and support wildlife; and the personal rewards of bringing nature back home and into our public spaces (like at the Hanover Garden Club beds in front of the Nugget!).

After the videos, ‘What’s the Rush’ and ‘Restoring Insects’, stick around for a live 30 minute Q&A to get your native planting questions answered. VT Center for Ecostudies’ Conservation Scientist Dr. Desirée Narango and Director of Conservation Science Dr. Ryan Rebozo will join Alicia Houk, author and local ecological gardening expert, as the panelists. They will discuss native plants, creating insect and bird habitats at home, and strategies for yard rewilding. Plus, we’ll have free resources to help you take action right away.

Come with your questions and enthusiasm to make a difference in biodiversity, one yard at a time.

Volunteer Work Day on Moose Mountain

November 17, 2023

We hope you’ll join us on Friday, November 24th for a post-holiday workday on Moose Mountain. Come out to the site of our newest land conservation project, the former Kendall Farm on Three Mile Road. We’ll be working together to help clean up an old farm dump, improving the environmental quality of this incredible property. No hazardous waste present. Wear work clothes appropriate for the weather, and bring your own gloves if you’d like (we’ll have gloves and tools available on site).

After our clean up, there will be time to explore this special place, and learn more about our conservation plans for the property.

For more information, email Barry at bmatthews@hanoverconservancy.org.

They will bring in tools they use on their farm and provide samples of their syrup for the audience to try.
This is a hybrid event cosponsored by Hanover Conservancy and Howe Library. Join us in person in the Mayer Room, Howe Library, or online via Zoom. Zoom registration link: http://bit.ly/3XxK2hs

Spring Trips Postponed

April 17, 2020

We’re disappointed to postpone our trips until we can safely get together again. Look for a new self-guided Hike of the Month in our May e-news.

If you’re headed out, please remember:

  • Enjoy your companions from a distance
  • Leash your dog – uncontrolled dog meetups can make things unsafe for their owners too
  • If a trailhead parking is full when you arrive, have a Plan B for a trail less traveled
  • Leave higher elevation and muddy trails until they’ve dried out
  • The Appalachian Trail is closed for now
